Landscaping in Brisbane

Trimscapes brings landscape design, construction, planting and outdoor building work together under one team. Since 2010, we have worked on residential gardens, commercial sites and complete outdoor renovations across Brisbane.

Projects can include retaining walls, paving, fencing, turf, decks, pergolas, irrigation, planting and pool landscaping, depending on the property and scope. Instead of leaving you to coordinate several contractors, our landscapers, horticulturalists and construction trades plan the work together from the outset.

With a QBCC licence and practical knowledge of Brisbane conditions, we focus on sound construction, suitable materials and outdoor spaces that work well long after the project is finished.

Trimscapes provides six core landscape services for Brisbane homes and commercial properties. Each service can be planned independently or coordinated as part of a larger design and build project.

Landscape Design

Our landscape design service covers site consultation, layout planning, material selection, planting plans, outdoor living areas, pathways, retaining walls, decks, pergolas, fencing, turf, and pool landscaping.

Trimscapes creates custom designs for new homes, renovations, front yards, backyards, courtyards, and commercial properties, giving the construction team a clear plan before work begins.

Retaining Walls

Trimscapes designs and builds retaining walls for sloping blocks, raised garden beds, level changes, and erosion control.

We construct block retaining walls, timber retaining walls, and stone retaining walls, with drainage and structural requirements considered before installation. The service can also include excavation, site preparation, garden borders, planting, paving, and surrounding landscape work.

Fences and Retaining Wall Services

Fences and Gates

We install fences, gates, privacy screens, and pool fencing for residential and commercial properties across Brisbane. Options include timber fencing, metal fencing, modular walls, glass fencing, slat fencing, and custom gate designs.

Trimscapes can coordinate the fencing with driveways, retaining walls, garden beds, pathways, planting, and other parts of your landscaping project.

Driveways

Trimscapes constructs new driveways and replaces worn or outdated driveway surfaces. Our driveway services include concrete driveways, decorative concrete, exposed aggregate finishes, paving, edging, access paths, and surrounding front yard landscaping.

We manage ground preparation, levels, drainage, and the connection between the driveway, fencing, gates, lawns, retaining walls, and garden areas.

Outdoor Garden Patio

Garden Design

Trimscapes designs gardens around your preferred style, property layout, sunlight, drainage, and maintenance needs. The service can include plant selection, garden bed layouts, native plants, tropical garden design, modern garden design, hedging, trees, shrubs, garden edging, turf, mulch, and irrigation systems.

We also plan low maintenance gardens for homeowners who want simpler ongoing care.

Hardscaping

Our hardscaping services cover the permanent built elements of your outdoor space. Trimscapes constructs retaining walls, patios, pathways, decks, pergolas, garden borders, concrete areas, stonework, steps, and outdoor structures.

We can combine these features with planting, turf, fencing, irrigation, and pool landscaping as part of one coordinated residential or commercial landscaping project.

Trimscapes installs outdoor tiles, paving, and natural stone for patios, pathways, courtyards, pool surrounds, garden areas, and outdoor living spaces. Our team works with ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, glass tiles, brick paving, concrete pavers, and natural stone.

We handle surface preparation, drainage, levels, cutting, laying, edging, and finishing so each surface connects properly with the surrounding landscaping.

Sheds, Garages and Carports

Trimscapes designs and constructs sheds, garages, and carports for Brisbane residential and commercial properties. Each structure is planned around the available space, vehicle or storage requirements, property access, and existing architecture. Our construction team can coordinate concrete slabs, driveways, gates, fencing, pathways, and surrounding landscaping, giving you one team to manage the project from initial planning through to completion.

FAQs

Not every landscaping project needs approval, but retaining walls, pools, pool fencing, decks, sheds, major excavation, and work affected by planning overlays may require it. A retaining wall may avoid building approval only when it meets specific height, loading, location, and pool fencing conditions. Check the property through Brisbane City Plan and speak with a building certifier before structural work begins.

Retaining walls are not treated as dividing fences under Queensland law. Responsibility usually rests with the property that benefits from the wall or the owner of the land where it is located. Confirm the boundary and discuss the work with your neighbour before construction begins. Retaining wall disputes can become complex, so independent legal advice may be necessary when ownership or responsibility is unclear.

Drainage should be planned before paving, turf, garden beds, or retaining walls are installed. The design should account for finished levels, surface falls, existing stormwater, subsoil drainage behind walls, irrigation, and where runoff will travel during heavy rain. Resolving these details early reduces the risk of ponding, erosion, damaged planting, and water being redirected toward buildings or neighbouring properties.

A landscaping quote should clearly identify the scope, materials, quantities, site preparation, excavation, spoil removal, drainage, labour, approvals, exclusions, estimated schedule, payment stages, and warranty information. It should also explain how variations and unexpected site conditions will be handled. Queensland building guidance recommends clear contracts that document the work, materials, timing, and payment structure before construction starts.

Yes, a deposit is normal where materials, labour, and scheduling must be secured. For landscaping that falls within regulated domestic building work, Queensland limits the maximum deposit according to the contract value. The current limits are 20 percent up to 3,300 dollars, 10 percent from 3,301 to 19,999 dollars, and 5 percent for contracts worth 20,000 dollars or more.

There is no single plant list that suits every Brisbane garden. Plant selection should reflect soil type, drainage, sunlight, available space, mature size, and the level of horticultural care you want. Brisbane City Council identifies four main local soil groups and recommends native plants suited to Brisbane’s subtropical climate. Suitable native and tropical plants can support lower maintenance landscaping when matched properly to the site.

The pool and surrounding landscape should be designed together. Excavation, the pool structure, retaining walls, drainage, and underground services are usually completed before paving, decks, permanent fencing, irrigation, planting, and turf. Planning the full space early prevents conflicts between finished levels, access, drainage, and pool fencing. A compliant barrier must be approved before the pool is filled to a depth of 300 millimetres or more.
